Who we are...
The Wood Burners Association is an organization for all owners of outdoor wood furnaces (also called outdoor wood boilers or OWB's) in the state of Massachusetts. Our purpose is to educate, inform, and assist with the proper operation of these units and the local and state regulation process.

What is an outdoor wood boiler?
An outdoor wood furnace is a freestanding unit located outside the home that provides heat and hot water to one or more buildings. The wood fire in the furnaces heats water that is then circulated between the buildings and the furnace via underground, insulated pipe. This heated water provides a heat source for the buildings it services.

Wood Burners Association Membership...
While outdoor wood furnaces are not currently regulated by government emission standards, that is all about to change. In early 2007 the US EPA will be looking at emissions standards, standardized testing methods, and new technology necessary to meet these standards for outdoor wood furnaces.

What does that mean for the current approximate 1000 outdoor furnace onwers in Massachusetts? Stay informed of local and state action by filling out the Wood Burners Association membership form.  You will receive periodic updates on industry and regulatory news and can have a voice in the future of outdoor wood furnaces in Massachusetts.

First and foremost, burn responsibly. Secondly, stay informed.
